Posted May 22, 2009. The tdci mondeos have this exact problem wich ford are aware of. Not herd of such problems on the focus though. The solution on the mondeos is to fit a new crank (a think) pulley and tensioner. Also a modified EGR Valve can cause excessive knocking and black smoke from the exhaust. Quoting direct from log book Model/Type S-MAX ZETEC TDCI 6G Variant QYWA1S Version EURO47CEA RG Vin/Chassis/Frame No. WF0SXXGBWS6J06919 Struggling/failing To Start Regardless Of Weather. last week or so my 08 TitX 1.8 TDCi Mondeo has been experiencing an intermittent starting problem. Since ownership (1 year) i have always just got in, clutch down and power button held till engine has fired. It has always been very quick to start and never had any problems over last winter. I have a 2008 mondeo with 1.8 Tdci (QYBA/Lynx). Apparently Mk2 Focus can have the same motor, so I also posted here, as there has been no help else where. First my EGR gave fault code P141A and then the car started to refuse igniting when motor was hot few weeks after that. I blanked the EGR with a steel plate, and the problem got little better
Ford Focus 1.8 tdci diesel - Smoke on startup 2004 Ford Focus 1.8t dci diesel. I have a problem when starting from cold with lots of blue smoke. It also runs roughly for a few minutes or until the blue smoke has gone. It then runs fine with little or no smoke. Starting from warm doesn't produce the smoke.

Ford have Decrease in MPG. A decrease in fuel efficiency is another symptom of a bad or failing or failing cold start injector. If the cold start injector leaks at the nozzle, and allows fuel into the intake this will cause an excessively rich mixture. This leak will result in a decrease in fuel efficiency, and in some cases performance and acceleration. 3. Name: Bob. Ford Model: MK1 TDCI 1.8 Focus. Ford Year: 2003. HI All I tried to look on the forum for the signs and symptoms of the illness of my Ford but no real joy. My mondeo mk4 2008 2.0tdci has some starting problems, there are days where it start without problems at all, like a new car, but from time to time after few starts there is a dodgy one, it c
Hi, Just came across this topic.I have had a similar problem. 59 plate 1.6 Focus Zetec. Came to start car at work the other day all I got was clicking and instrument and indicator lights flashing in synch. Got a bump start and drove home usually 12 miles of fast roads but did a few extra to boost charge. Spare battery put on charge just in case
The white smoke will be unburnt diesel which could be down to faulty glow plugs but if it wasn't doing this before I'd be more likely to suspect that some part of the fuel system has a tiny leak and is allowing a small amount of air in.
